Although the exactl construction date isn't known, the water mill of Sittensen was first mentioned in 1585. In the beginning, the mill belonged to the monastery of Verden. In 1600 it was traded by the bishop Philipp Sigismund and given to the Keeper Dietrich Schulte. In 1701, the mill was given to the family of the miller Bellmann. In 1839, Friedrich Gohde married into the current miller family and the mill changed its name again. 1854 the mill was rebuild and in 1908 it got the massive annex to the existing building.
Since 1984 the mill is now property of the municipality of Sittensen and after renovation in 1993 the building now houses a museum for craftmanship and the office of tourism.
Noteworthy is the fact that Weedings can be held on the former milling floors.
