Famous during the American Civil War for his "Stonewall" nickname as he and his troops never retreated from enemy fire, but stood solid as a stone wall.

We learned during our tour of VMI that Stonewall was not a popular professor as he rote dictated his previously memorized lectures. If interrupted, he would have to restart at the beginnning.
