Though its traditional rural hinterland remains important, in the 2000s Woodville branded itself as the wind farm capital of New Zealand, based on the nearby Tararua wind farm.
Tararua Windfarm: The wind farm is situated on the Tararua Ranges just south of the Manawatu Gorge. The site is located on 700 hectares of private land on a ridge of rolling hills which continues to be used for sheep and beef farming.
Te Apiti Windfarm: Te Apiti Windfarm, situated on 1,150 hectares of farmland owned by four separate landowners including Meridian Energy, there are 55 wind turbines.
Woodville is nestled on the plains at the foot of the hills beneath the windfarms.
