Mount Cimetta is close to the Periadriatic Seam, a distinct geologic fault that forms the division between the Adriatic plate and the European plate. These two zones have a clearly differing tectonic origin. The platform has specimen of over 20 different types of local mineral on display, some of them from the North (Alpine), some from the South of the seam (sedimentic). Several information signs explain the structure and origin of every one and show the bigger context. All sign are in Italian, German and English.

For everybody not interested in geology, this spot offers a wonderful 360° view over the area, where you can see the lowest (Lake Maggiore shore) and highest (Dufour Peak/Monte Rosa) points of Switzerland at the same time.
