James Houston Davis (Jimmie Davis) served two nonconsecutive terms as Governor of Louisiana (1944-1948 and 1960-1964). Born September 11, 1899, he died November 5, 2000 and is buried behind the Jimmie Davis Tabernacle in Quitman, 13 miles from the Jimmie Davis State Park in Louisiana. He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1971 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1972. Known as the "Singing Governor" he is best known for writing "You Are My Sunshine," though that claim is under some dispute. "You Are My Sunshine" is one of two official state songs of Louisiana. He was also one of the original 13 inductees to the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame.
