Mellon Park was a private garden of the Mellon family in a residential lot. It was donated to the city of Pittsburgh by the family, and since, it has been a dog run area for dog owners early in the morning and during the after-work hours, and on weekends, an area for classical music concerts and brunch events.

The annual Arts Festival in the Park happens here every September.

The sundial is made of terracotta. It is a decor as part of the Shakespeare depressed-area herb garden.

A plan of the 1930s park can be found here (visit link)
