Wat Phai Lom is one of the older and more impressive Wats in the small city of Chanthaburi, in south eastern Thailand. As all good Wats do, this Wat has a bell. A bell which visitors and worshipers are eligible to ring, however, there is one departure from the norm. The bell is a western style bell—it has a clapper. The first such I have seen in Thailand.

Possibly, the bell was a gift from the west? The bell has none of the 'Thai/Asia' style I would expect, however, I was not able to find anyone who could throw any light on the history of the bell.

With all that, the bell is entirely functional. It makes a very sharp, loud ring.
