The Point Reyes Lighthouse is located on a rock promontory. One must descend the equivalent of a 30 story building to get down to the light station. The stairway is not that wide and has barely enough room to pass if each person steps slight off the stairway. Along the way there are 3 or 4 level stations with benches where people can stop to rest, out of the way of the stairway travelers. There are a couple of "landings" along the way, without stairs, that are more like sloping connector ramps.
Interestingly, when you're ascending, the steps have numbers on them every 10 steps, so you can see how you're progressing.
