Weighing nearly ten tons, this granite monument, honoring the memory of the war veterans of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, was erected in the city's Menominee Park in November of 1963. Sculpted by Armando Comolli of Barre, Vermont, the four-foot diameter sphere shows the continents in polished bas relief against the rough granite of the oceans. The globe tops a base of steeled finish granite from Vermont's Rock of Ages quarry. The cost of the monument was paid for with funds from the Colonel John Hicks estate.
