In New Orleans, in the financial district (American Quarter) of the city, is a small green space known as Lafayette Square. This square is a nice relief from the crowded concrete and stone buildings that surround it. In the spring, it is the place where free concerts are held.

The American Guide Series book for the state of Louisiana has the following text about the square:

66. LAFAYETTE SQUARE, bounded by St. Charles, South, Camp, and North Sts, was the American counterpart of the Creole Place d'Armes. In the square are statues of Benjamin Franklin, Henry Clay, and John McDonogh.

- American Guide Series, Louisiana: A Guide to the State, p. 335.

The square still has these statues. Benjamin Franklin stands at the east entrance to the park. Henry Clay stands in the center of the park. John McDonogh's bust, with two children around him, is located at the west entrance. Two modern 'sculptures' have been placed on the east side - two eyes that are floodlights for the building across the street. The square is mostly covered by widely spaced trees. One thing that has changed is that North and South Streets have been renamed to North Maestri Place and South Maestri Place.

On Wednesdays from March to June, the square is the place for the "YLC Wednesday at the Square," where free concerts are held. More information and schedule can be viewed by clicking on the web site link below.
