The small city of Rayong is the capital of the Rayong province, which is in eastern Thailand. Near the centre of the city is the Sri Muang Park. A wide and spacious area, with a host of community facilities, including: a soccer field, exercise area, picnic spots, gardens, and shady trees. In total, the grounds cover an area of 11 hectares (28 acres). Surrounding the park are various municipal buildings: City Hall, the main public library, Law courts, and youth centres.
According to the information signs present, the park has a colourful history. At an unstated period in the past the park was used to despatch miscreants to the next incarnation. The proximity of the provincial law courts supports this claim.
In the hot Thai climate, the shady trees do provide a welcome respite. The term "Muang" in the park name is the Thai word for 'city'. The famous Buddha image, Ho Phra Buddha Ang Khee Rot (WM9958), is situated at the main entrance to the park.
