Speedwell Historical site is the location of a 24 foot tall waterwheel located within the factory building. This same building is the location in which the telegraph was made an operational instrument by Morse and Vail. Across the road is the remains of the Speedwell Iron Works. The waterwheel still turns but the original water source is gone, which ran underground and then vertically up the pipe to turn the overshot waterwheel. Since the wheel is inside the shorter side of the building a full picture of the wheel is not possible. The wheel is unique in design with hub and rim being made of iron at the works across the road and spokes being made of wood. This is a very nice historical site in which an admission is charged, I found the tour excellent.
