Three different trails can be used to reach the summit of Slide Mountain, so named for an 1819 landslide on the north face of the peak.
Slide Mountain failed to gain its lofty status as the highest peak in Ulster County (and the Catskills) until 1890. It is unclear if the actual height of the peak known but is at least 4180 feet.
