The REME are responsible for the equipment supplied to the Army. They maintain and repair all the equipment including rifles, radios, missiles, tanks and even helicopters. REME is the Corps Veterans' organisation.
This memorial is made from Portland Stone and was designed by sculptor, Alan Micklethwaite. Nearby the Armed Forces Memorial contains the names of those from REME who died.
There are over 40 branches of REME across Britain, Australia and New Zealand.
The Duke of Edinburgh officially opened this memorial and bridge with Prince Philip, veterans and current Corps members. Colonel Commandant Major General Michael Huntley CB hosted the opening event on 9th July 2009.

There are two brass plaques on the entrance pathway to the main memorial. The left one reads:
'For all who have served in the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers
This Memorial was dedicated on 9 July 2009 in presence of
His Royal Highness The Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh KG KT OM GBE AC QSO
Colonel in Chief.'
The right brass plaque reads:
'This memorial to the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers is dedicated to all those who have served in the Corps in peace and war, since its formation in 1942.
It was designed and constructed in Portland Stone by the sculptor Alan Micklethwaite to complement the main Armed Forces Memorial where the names of the REME fallen are recorded.
It was funded jointly by the REME Central Charitable Trust and the REME Association.'
On the main memorial is the inscription:
'DEDICATED TO THE PAST AND PRESENT MEMBERS OF THE CORPS'
and on a circular paving stone in the centre of the memorial:
'ARTE ET MARTE'
This is the REME motto meaning 'WITH SKILL and FIGHTING'.

Description of Memorial:
Lying in the National Memorial Arboretum the memorial is on the eastern edge. Once a quarry site the arboretum is now a very special place for memorials and wildlife as there is a range of habitats created by the newly planted trees and existing rivers and water.
