This station is located in Salem, NH. It is a USCGS&SS disk set in the west wing of the south abutment of a box culvert that carries the abandoned Manchester-Lawrence branch of the Boston & Maine Railroad. The culvert is between the Rockingham Park Racetrack to the west, and NH Rt 28 (Broadway) to the east. The NHDOT datasheet gives directions to the station traveling North 2.7mi(4.3km)from the NH/MA state border on NH 28, be advised that the station will be on the left. You may also approach the station heading South on NH 28, 0.6mi from the intersection of NH 28(Broadway) and NH 97(Main St)to the station on the right. Park near the billboard sign and walk to the culvert. The disk is easy to find, but may be tricky to photograph due to limited positioning ability, coupled with the hazards of a dilapidated barbed wire fence to one side and falling into the water on the other. That said, use caution. I took photos and coords by laying down on the rail ties and grass and holding the camera and GPS out and directly over the disk.
After reviewing the photos I took, it was discovered that the granite block the disk is set in has shifted an inch westward, indicating a need for stabilization and maintenance. Because of this, the station is in poor condition.
The falling chain link fence and the shifting stone block could be a result of extensive flooding in this region over the past two years.
