It was used by the United States Army and United States Marine Corps as their primary heavy artillery gun under the designation 155 mm Gun M1917 or M1918 until 1942, when it was gradually replaced by the 155 mm M1A1 'Long Tom'.
Fully restored in 1988 by the Glendive National Guard, this gun is now on permanent display at the Frontier Gateway Museum, in Glendive, MT.
The museum is expanding quite a bit, and because of that, this display and many others are now located on property around the actual museum. This piece and many others are available even when the museum is closed.
There is a Geocache *VERY* close to this waypoint, less than 150 feet. (the cache is unrelated to this waypoint)
There is also a display containing a few pages of the field manual for this gun, and a plaque dedicating this gun to the museum in celebration of the 100th year of Montana's statehood, and the 25th anniversary of the museum.
