Engine 374 Display Pavilion
This pavilion, officially opened on August 22, 1997, was a joint project of the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation and the Vancouver Central Lions Club. Engine 374 pulled the first transcontinental passenger train into Vancouver on May 23, 1887, thereby joining Canada from East to West.
Donated to the City of Vancouver in 1948, the locomotive was completely refurbished in 1986. Among the many contributors to the engine’s restoration were those who donated by the bricks that now pave the floor of the pavilion.
Since Engine 374 would have been serviced at the Roundhouse adjacent to this pavilion during its many years of operation, it is fitting that it be permanently displayed here as a tangible reminder of Canadian railroading history.
