The extensive 169-hectare lake holds 37 million cubic metres of water and has an average daily yield of 101,100 cubic metres. The water is piped to the Ardmore Watercare Services then supplied to the residents of Auckland City

There are toilets, picnic area, visitors centre, trout fishing and walking tracks available at the dam site.
