The LITTLE ROCK CITY HALL NW. corner Markham St. and Broadway, carries a red-tile dome above three stories of buff-colored brick. At the southeast corner of the City Hall lawn a fragment of the "little rock" for which the city was named. - Arkansas: A Guide to the State, Little Rock section, pg. 180.
The building continues to serve as City Hall. The dome mentioned in the Guide was removed in the mid 1950s because it has deteriorated significantly. The building was restored in 1987-88 to its 1908 appearance (time of original construction) minus the dome.
The fragment of the "little rock" is no longer located on the lawn and has been moved to Riverfront Park. See Waymark - The Little Rock
