A deceased tree commemorates a deceased citizen in front of a religious school. Anything bolted down is dedicated in a one block radius in this area. I counted over 100 dedicated trees. This tree is located in along W. Maple Avenue.

This tree is planted between the curb and sidewalk and is directly in front of St. Peter School, which is next to St. Peter Roman Catholic Church. The tree appears dead as it never came back from winter.
After walking the streets of downtown Merchantville for a few hours I discovered this is a “Shade Tree” kind of community with trees lining every street, business and each park and playground. The shopping area on Centre St, & West & Park Avenues are all very quaint. I spied lots restaurants, grocery stores, specialty shops, and all sorts of other eclectic shops. These dedicated trees enhance the natural beauty of this town.
The inscribed/etched white, polished stone marker at the foot of the tree is flush with the ground. It reads:
