The Mitchell Island Pier is a great example of reuse. Once a railway bridge, the swing span was removed when the rail line was abandoned and the trusses have been left behind to become a 'fishing' pier.

While this former railway bridge might be too high above the North Arm of the Fraser River it is classified by the City of Richmond Parks Department as a fishing pier. Today it provides people with a great way to experience the industrial river where there are few places that the public can reach its shores.
