The Merriman family came to Akron in 1835 from Massachusetts and settled on this property located at 641 W Market St. The head of the family, Charles Merriman, was a farmer and carpenter.
This stone Greek Revival house was constructed in 1835. The left bay of the house has two windows with stone sills and lintels and an entry with sidelights and a transom on the first level. The second floor has two windows with stone lintels and sills. The bay is capped by a gable roof with a plain cornice. The right two bays have an addition to the front in the form of an enclosed porch supported by baluster columns with single paired windows above.
The house has been occupied by various commercial uses over the years.
