Heading north up Route 31 into Oxford, New Jersey, we began to come out of busy suburban life, into a quiet, rolling hills area. Certainly Smokey Bear country we thought.
Sure enough, just around the bend, sitting in front of the Oxford Volunteer Fire Company, the Smokey greeted us with open arms.
A short visit to the fire company is worth it. There is also an impressive memorial to their local firefighters.
