Marker Text: In 1851 the immigrant trains used this spot to ford the Deschutes River on their trek to Western Oregon. Upon departing, the earliest known train named it Farewell Bend and it is from this origin that the present city of Bend derived its name. Dedicated Dec. 7, 1928
