St. Patrick's Day Balloon Rallye - Hot Air Balloon Festivals on Waymarking.com

The St. Patrick's Day Balloon Rallye is held each year on the weekend closest to March 17. For 22 years, balloonist from around the southwest US but has attracted balloonist from as far as Britian.

The rallye is organized by the Valencia Flying and Retrieval Society and the Village of Los Lunas, NM. The website is: (visit link)

The rallye originally was sponsored by a local car dealership and the first prize for the flying competition was "A New Green Car". However...the only thing "new" about the car was the green color. It was a used car that we painted a nice Irish green in waterbased paint. Tires, windows, everything.....Green. Unfortunately the dealership sold out and the "new green car" is no longer a part of this rallye.

It remains one of the best attended and enjoyed rallyes of the year.
