I counted approximately 725 markers, some of which are from the late 19th century which is a good fifty years before this church was built. The oldest part of the cemetery, that is the interments whose residents were born in the early 1800s, is in the center rear of the church. The cemetery is separated into two parts. I didn't see any obelisks, statues or any other fancy type of graves or markers. This is a relatively simple burying ground.

On March 10, 1811, a small group of men met for the purpose of forming a church. They were prompted by their faith in God and a faith in the future of Hillmanton for the use of the Methodist Episcopal Society. This church is a result of their faith.

There have been several buildings which have acted as the church of this congregation. The cornerstone for the first church building was placed in April 22, 1811. By March 12, 1844, Christ Methodist Episcopal Church was changed to Union Methodist Church. The building was dedicated on July 26, 1949 and was then known as Chews Landing Methodist Episcopal Church as it is today. Another church was built in the meanwhile. Next, the fourth building underwent two additions. The first was in 1952 and the second addition was dedicated on March 9, 1958 and that is where we are today.
