This ferry is a reactive cable ferry, i.e. it has no engine of any kind but uses the power of the current to get across the river. It connects the Medieval quarter of St. Alban with the North side of the Rhine.
It is a pedestrians ferry used by tourists and locals likewise.
It was established in 1895 and was in service until 1934 when a near by bridge opened.
In 1989 the ferry was re-established in its original shape.
Transfer costs 1.60 CHF for adults. Daily service, except for floods.
After the standard opening hours the ferry can be rented for events between 19:00 and 22:00.
