While driving through Colchester, Illinois we stopped at the war memorial. I have visited this memorial before. At that time there was not a bell in with the memorial. So I thought I would gather this waymark, and be on my way.
I saw a man tapping the bell. This peaked my curiosity, so I had to ask.
I spoke to a Gentleman (a WWII Vet) who was to make the decision on the wich mallet to use.
They were testing different sizes of wooden mallets to see wich one would give the best tone. He invited me to give my opinion, so did.
On Memorial Day every year the Veterans and Citizens of Colchester ring this bell for each Veteran that has died or is Missing in Action.
This is quite a tribute this town offers to its fallen Heros.
