On October 28, 1776, approximately 4,000 American troops engaged a similar number of British troops near what is now White Plains, New York. By the end of the battle, 313 British troops were killed or wounded, and an estimated 300 American troops were killed, wounded or captured.
28 year old Daniel Hobart of Pepperell, Massachusetts, was one of the American casualties. Today he is buried in the Walton Cemetery in Pepperell.
