The Barbary Coast Trail brings one to many of San Francisco's famed tourist sights. The trail is 3.8 miles long and is marked by 170 bronze markers embedded in the sidewalk. The marker pictured here is near the Cable car turnabout. The trail can be self-guided (maps and brochures can be downloaded or purchased), or with an audio component (also downloadable) or with a personal guide (who happens to be the trail creator, Daniel Bacon.
Highlights include the US Mint, Portsmouth Square (birthplace of the Gold Rush), Pony Express Headquarters, Telegraph Hill, Fishermans Wharf and many others.
