Anyone can get to this aircraft display as long as the Visitor's Center is open, which is year-round.
This B-52D was moved from Peterson Air Force Base in December 1983. It was flown from 1957-1983 and ended its career with over 15,000 flying hours. It is one of the two B-52D's credited with a confirmed MIG kill during the vietnam conflict. Flying out of U-Tapao Royal Thai Naval Airfield in southern Thailand, the crew of the "Diamond Lil" shot down a MIG northeast of Hanoi during "Linbacker II" action on Christmas Eve, 1972.
Apparently there must have been a mistake on the re-paint. If you notice in the tail number photo the number is 50083, but in one of the plaques it is 55083. The correct number is 55083.
