Those Left Behind is one of several sculptures installed in the
Living Memorial Sculpture Garden. The garden was created by volunteers under the guidance of Ric deLugo as a memorial to war dead. Land for the garden was donated by the United States Forest Service. Funding for the sculpture was raised by donation.
From the Smithsonian description:
Abstract full-length female figure holding a folded American flag in her hands. The steel sculpture stands on a concrete foundation. The concrete is tinted black.
