Long before Disney World became what it is today, the land was mostly orange groves, swamps, and farmland. It is very likely a farmer leaned an old-fashioned push lawnmower against this tree and left it there. Years later, Walt Disney and his myriad of fictitious companies bought up all the land to establish Walt Disney World.
The tree and the lawnmower were discovered by Disney's designers when laying out Fort Wilderness Campground and decided to keep it as a mini attraction. They even went so far as to come up with a small poem, which can be found on a sign next to the tree. Unfortunately the tree had to be cut around 1997, but they have left the trunk in place.
You don't need to be staying at the campground to visit this waymark. Visitors can take one of the water taxis from the Magic Kingdom or a bus from any of the Disney parks or resorts.
