Lake Maraetai is extremely popular for water sports and the annual power boat regatta is held every January. The lake is a well known fishing spot for local anglers in the Mangakino district. Fisherman can often be seen trolling or casting from a drifting boat. Boat access to this lake is available from this boat ramp in the domain.
