This bronze dial is in pristine condition and mounted on top of a stone pedestal. The bottom is bulbous and roughly hewn, the shaft leading to the top is rectangular. The dial sits on a few ledges of stone, each one larger than the next. It is "set" to latitude 40. There is an inscription which reads These are the immortal hours, this one is thine.
This was either presented in 1933 to commemorate their 25th anniversary or in 1958 for their 50th reunion celebration. I too went to this school and it is our custom as a class to raise money to present a gift to the school. I just celebrated my 25th and we raised several thousand dollars to present a gift. Today's gifts are more practical and used for classrooms, new construction, renovations or other things the school needs This sundial represents a time when money was not as much an issue as it is today. At that time, they were only the 13th class to graduate from the school.
