From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch, is purportedly an ape-like creature that inhabits forests, mainly in the Pacific Northwest region of North America. Bigfoot is usually described as a large, hairy, bipedal humanoid.
The scientific community considers Bigfoot to be a combination of folklore, misidentification, and hoax, rather than a real creature. Scientific consensus does not support the posited existence of megafauna cryptids such as Bigfoot, because of the improbably large numbers necessary to maintain a breeding population, and because climate and food supply issues would make such purported creatures' survival in reported habitats unlikely. Nevertheless, Bigfoot is one of the more famous examples of a cryptid within cryptozoology and an enduring legend. A small minority of accredited scientists profess the view that evidence collected of alleged Bigfoot encounters warrants further evaluation and testing.
In Canada, the term Bigfoot is used but most people call this being by the name that appeared in a series of Canadian newspaper articles published in the 1920s by J. W. Burns, Sasquatch.
Also in BC, a beer company has used the 'conflict' between a Ranger and a Sasquatch in a very successful and popular ad campaign. This statue is located along side a busy highway and it receives a lot of attention. It is not uncommon to see the Sasquatch holding an empty can or case of beer and the hand that is extended forward is slowly having the fingers polished by all the people grabbing it.
