Cosmo Park was designed and built as a dedicated dog park. Everything in the park from the lamp post fixtures to the tot lot fits within the dog theme. Cosmo Park opened in July 2006 and got it's name from Cosmo van Blitsaerd, a German Shepherd, who worked as a K-9 for the Gilbert Police Department from 1993 - 1999. Since opening, the park has received numerous accolades for it's dog friendliness. For example, a year after opening, Cosmo Park was named the "Best Dog Park 2007" by Dog Fancy magazine.
Cosmo Park features 3 separate off leash dog areas. There is a small area for shier dogs. There is an exercise yard with various exercise equipment and open space for playing catch. The third area is a man made lake and beach complete with a pier for water dogs.
For humans, the park includes a tot lot, a full size basketball court, and a ramada with picnic benches.
Cosmo Park is located on the North side of Ray Rd., just East of Santan Village Parkway. The park is open daily from 5:30am to 10pm.
