In 2006, construction crews unearthed a group of Mammoth fossils while building new retail shops in Gilbert. After excavating the fossils, they were determined to be a vertebrae and sections of each of the tusks. The paleontological find inspired the naming of "Discovery Park" in Southeast Gilbert and a contest to name the Mammoth ensued. At the end of the contest, the Mammoth was named "Tuskers" and has become a mascot for the Town.

A cast of the original vertebrae and tusk fossils was made. Using the cast, these exact replicas of the fossils were created. The fossil replicas are on permanent display at the Southeast Regional Library in Gilbert, AZ. The library is located on the Southeast corner of Greenfield Rd. and Guadalupe Rd. The display can be visited during normal library hours.
