Marker Name: B12 - Spheir Building
Marker Text: When completed in 1917, the Spheir Building was one of Bend’s largest commercial buildings. It was upscale and urban, with retail store space on the lower level and modern apartments upstairs. The cost of construction was an astronomical $30,000.
According to The Bend Bulletin, D. Spheir “came to Bend from Los Angeles one day and almost immediately became infatuated with the town, purchased business property, and announced his intention to build a brick business block occupying the corner.”
