Ashland is located in the Rogue River Valley in southern Oregon and has an estimated population of 20,000.
The City of Ashland, Oregon was named after Ashland County, Ohio from which many original settlers came. Some even had relatives in Ashland, Kentucky. It was originally known as Ashland Mills in 1855.
In 1925, the nine-story Lithia Springs Hotel opened and was the tallest building between Portland and San Francisco. Today this grand hotel has been renovated and is known as the Ashland Springs Hotel.
Today Ashland is known for being the home of the world-famous Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Southern Oregon University.
