In the fifteenth century the first church was burned unless the presbytery and the faults of the fire were released to the Jews who lived near the Jewish quarter. There was a court case that proved the crime and were sentenced to rebuild the church and then were expelled from the village. Years later the chancel was rebuilt by Damião de Goes therein, by his will, was buried in 1574. The temple is very spacious and has five altars. In the main worship is Our Lady of Purification is patron of the church, and the side St. Anthony, S. Braz, Andrew and Ecce Homo, and tradition that the latter image was given by renowned chronicler Damião de Goes. The baptismal font is dated 1561 and she is currently in Igreja da Misericórdia.
