Captain Jack Black was a British Merchant Marine that came to the area in 1888. He revered the wooded area and in order to preserve it purchased the entire area. After his death and the death of his family, the area was cared for and used by the Boy Scouts. In 1947 Frank Black donated the land to the County of Wadena and it is used as a picnic spot and in memory of his uncles. Very scenic rustic area with a creek winding through.
