DO NOT APPROACH THE SWALLOW COLONY SITE
Digging or otherwise disturbing the site is a violation of Federal and State Laws.
Bank Swallows are so named because of their choice of riverbanks as their 'normal' nesting area. Their scientific name, Riparia riparia, comes from the Latin word for riverbank.
They like any steep, sandy bank so they also nest in highway cuts and gravel pits. Each hole in this bank could represent a nest 2 or 3 feet deep.
