The Education Act 1877 allowed free education for all children between the ages of 7 to 14.
1876 - The site was bought for 90 pounds.
1877 - The central section of the school was built for a cost of 290 pounds and was built by Mr Midwinter purchased from Mr A Glover. The school was capable of accommodating 80 students. During the following 20 years the school was added on to.
1977 - The school closed.
1982 - Placed with the N.Z. Historic Places Trust and registered as a category II.
The school is now known as Hauraki House and is used as a cultural centre and art gallery.
