The building dates to the 17th century and has 19th century additions. It is constructed with a timber frame and has a render with a colourwash over most parts of the exterior. Colourwashed brick is also used in the ground floor and 19th century additions.

There is a clay tile roof and attic block projecting to the east with lean-to additions on the south east angle. An original doorway remains to the west but is now blocked. The building is Grade II Listed and lies in the Whitehall Plantation in the grounds of Wrest Park. It is visible from the public bridleway which follows the old road to Higham Gobion.

Along the route are some interesting features with a deep stream, Ion Lodge on the Barton Road and some old jumps visible in the woodland. Opposite Whitehall is a modern property beautifully presented.
