This mansion, known as Oak Park Hill estate or Oak Place, was the home of Lewis Miller, an important Akron industrialist, and his wife Mary Valinda. It was constructed in 1870. Mr. Miller invented the Buckeye Mower and Reaper and was the co-founder of the Chautauqua Association. Mr. Miller’s daughter, Mina, was born on July 6, 1865.

On February, 24, 1886, Akron had its social event of the year with the wedding of Mina and Thomas Alva Edison. Crowds of important people, who arrived by train from all over the country, were picked up in shiny carriages and whisked off to the Miller mansion, which reverberated to the music of an orchestra. A chef and 20 waiters were imported from Chicago to serve a huge lunch, and a plush red carpet led from the Miller home to the scene of the wedding, a picturesque knoll overlooking the city of Akron. Lewis Miller died on February 17, 1899; Mary Valinda Miller died on October 19, 1912. On August 30, 1935, Mina Miller Edison married Edward Everett Hughes, a childhood friend; she died on August 24, 1947.

The first level of the house has a large round arched main entry way. Most of the windows on the first and second floors, as well as the secondary entries, have segmental arches. There is a veranda on the east façade. The main elevations are capped by gable roofs with prominent gable returns with incised decorations on the gable fasciae.

The house is currently used as apartments.
