The sundial is located just before the stone stairs which lead to the front entrance of the library. It appears the gnomon, or shadow caster is currently missing. It might have been made of bronze as the dial is now green. This particular dial lets you know the current month. Each of the 12 wedges are represented by the astrological sign. This is the most common type of sundial, horizontal where the base of this dial is parallel to the ground and the missing gnomon's angle would have accounted for the latitude.
