This Historical Landmark is easy to miss...all by itself on Highway 76...a block and a half away from the Mission it commemorates.

This Historical Marker indicates the following:
LA ASISTENCIA DE
SAN ANTONIO DE PALA
NOTABLE FOR ITS BELL TOWER OR
CAMPANILE. THE CHAPEL WAS BUILT BY
FATHER PEYRI , 1816. ALMOST DESTROYED
BY EARTHQUAKE AND STORM BUT LATER
RESTORED. INDIANS ARE STILL AT PALA.

The Mission is about a block and a half away...and is still in use as a chapel and school. This Mission originally served to "assist" the larger nearby Mission de San Luis Rey.
And indeed, Indians ARE still at Pala.... with a beautiful "Pala" Casino just down the road from this site.
