The Tattered Cover (

I remember they special ordered a book for me about building bicycle wheels. When they moved to a larger location the Cherry Creek, their customers came and helped to box books, carry boxes and then help setup the new location. For no pay - just the 'ownership' many of us feel for the store.
The store offers a huge selection of books, newspapers, music, cards, book bags, etc. They offer free wi-fi, gift wrap, shipping, special orders, book readings and signings, coffee, bargain books, used books, etc. They are located in the historic landmark, the C.S. Morey Merchantile Building (

The owner, Joyce Meskis, is active in the Denver business community and the booksellers world. She has fought in court for privacy rights for book readers and purchasers. " She is the recipient of many prestigious awards for intellectual freedom including the William J. Brennan, Jr. Award for the Protection of Free Expression given by the Thomas Jefferson Center in Washington D.C.; the PEN/Newman First Amendment Award from the PEN American Center in New York; The Privacy International Brandeis Award; the American Library Association Award for Free Expression; and The Author’s Guild of America Award for Distinguished Service to the Literary Community. She is also the recipient of the distinguished Service Award for outstanding Achievement and Exceptional Service to the Denver Metropolitan Area from the University of Colorado Board of Regents." (

However, if we (the consumers and book readers), do not support independent bookstores, they will perish. The Tattered Cover sells out of their three locations as well as on-line. Do consider purchasing from this fine independent bookseller.
