The LEWIS LIBRARY BUILDING is the oldest building used continuously as a library in Missouri. Built in 1866 and endowed by Colonel Benjamin W. Lewis, Sr., it is a two-story brick structure enclosed by a cast-iron fence with double gates. Curved cast-iron stairways lead to the two reading rooms and library on the second floor. In the library room, furnished with the original shelves, desks, and chairs, is a portrait of Colonel Lewis by A. J. Conant, St. Louis artist. - Missouri: Guide to "Show Me" State, Tour 1, pg. 352.
The library continues to function as the Glasgow Public Library. The building is well maintained.
